Mission: The career development component is dedicated to helping student-athletes bring all
the other components of the life skills program (academics, athletics participation, personal development and
service) into focus as the student-athlete enters life after college. Student-Athletes are provided assistance in
the following areas:
- Orientation to the SU 6-stage career development model and transition cycle
- Self-assessment of interest, skills, abilities, personality preferences and values
- Development of a career vision and game plan
- Exploration of academic and career options
- Choosing a major area of study
- Acquiring experiential learning
- Obtaining job/graduate school search skills
- Utilization of sport related transitional skills
- Development of a career portfolio
The priorities of the career development program are:
- Program interface with Syracuse University’s Center for Career Services (CCS) and the Career Services Network (CNS);
- Providing a career development program congruent with the developmental needs of all
student-athletes;
- Connecting coaches, alumni and employers to the career development program.
