Ecker
Mission: To educate students and alumni about the career development,
planning, and implementation process. To support students/alumni in the
exploration, identification, pusuit, and integration of personal and professional
career goals. To connect students and alumni directly to employment and
continuing education opportunities. To teach students and alumni effective
career navigation strategies, skills, and techniques. To inform constituents
about career options, job market trends, and work place paradigms.
Populations served: All Syracuse students and alumni
Services/Programs:
Recruitment Services. On-campus recruiting during the fall and spring
semesters (approx 250+ employers). Resume referrals and exchanges year-round.
Sponsorship and collaboration on career fairs, graduate school days, internship
events, off-campus interviewing consortia. Training and coordination relative
to online, campuswide OrangeLink system.
Internship Services. Coordination of internship development, publicity, faculty liaisons, and applications process.
Consultation on career decision-making, job searching, further education
options. Drop-in and one hour appointments. Career assessment: Choices
Planner, Strong Interest Inventory, World of Work Inventory, Myers-Briggs
Type Indicator, and others. Resume and letter critiquing. Simulated interviews.
Job and internship search advising. Graduate school advising.
Career resources/publications. Industry overviews, directories, how-to books,
on-line job listings, internship directories, and
career literature. The Connection: Brief articles on job market trends, field profiles,
SUccess Stories, advice, and info on career events. Career Guide, 30+ page guide to services and search skills and strategies.
Web site. Services of the Center, career and job market news online,
Calendar of Events, link to OrangeLink, hot links to numerous career exploration
sites, numerous self-help sections on job search skills and strategies.
Workshops. Resumes/ Cover Letters/ Employment Correspondence/ Interviewing
Skills/ Mock Interviews (video taped one-on-one with a career consultant).
Outreach Programming. Presentations to student
organizations and classrooms to inform students about services. Credentials Services.
Forwarding and maintenance service for files containing recommendations, personal
statements, and other supporting documentation for graduate school or employment
applications.
