Members of the Career Services Network have coordinated a number of special programs and services aimed at diverse
populations. Among the most recent have been the following:
- The Diversity Business Summit. This multi-faceted program has
featured employer-conducted workshops, an employer information fair, and
a keynote speaker that have addressed the issues faced by diverse students
in their transition from college life to the world of work. Begun in March
of 2002 by the African American Male Congress, the Office of Multicultural
Affairs, and the Career Services Network, this event was well-received
by both the students and the employers who participated. In 2003, this
event was scheduled to immediately precede the Fall Career Fair.
- Workforce Recruitment Program. The WRP affords on-campus interviewing opportunities to students with
disabilities. An initiative of the U.S. Departments of Labor and Defense, and coordinated at Syracuse by the Office
of Disabilities Services and the Center for Career Services, this program leads to the building of a candidate database
that is made available to Federal agencies and private sector employers seeking to diversify their workforces.
- Career Enhancement Course. Delivered to incoming part-time students in the Higher Education Opportunity Program,
this semester-long course introduced the career planning process and reinforced the importance of self assessment, work world
exploration, and job winning skills as a complement to academic work. The course was designed and coordinated by the Center
for Career Services and the HEOP Program at University College.
Individuals or organizations wishing to participate in these events, or
explore the launch of new events or programs, should email
Greg Victory to discuss details and new ideas. |
